Trash Weekend Run Jan 2

Happy New Year!

Sorry, I'm a bit behind in getting this week's msg out...
Short, sweet and trashy is our theme this weekend.

Game Plan
6am start (5:45am arrival)
CADY WAY
8-10 miles (9 miles planned)
route:
CW to Phelps (3m loop)
Phelps to Park Ave (2)
Park to Phelps (2)
Phelps to CW (2)

*As you are probably aware by now, this Saturday is MarathonFest's annual "trash run" (details below in Susan's msg)...our group always places, but has yet to take 1st place...this could be the year! As added incentive to show up, you can earn a one day Disney pass (again, more details in Susan's msg, but here's the link http://home.disney.go.com/parks/ ). You must register tomorrow (1/1/10) in order to get recognition for 1/2/10. Please, only register if you are absolutely going to show up on Saturday. Besides, Mickey will be taking attendance!

Congrats to our Disney runners...you've made it to your last Saturday training run, it's only taken 6+ months!

We're still finalizing our group end 'o session gig. Hope to give you the details next week!
We some members running the DeLeon Springs 1/2 on Sunday...best of luck!
Everyone else dress warm and we'll see you Saturday.

Marathons with the highest percent of Boston qualifying finishers in 2009

The marathons below had the highest percent of Boston qualifying finishers in 2009. Of course these marathons will be among those ranked the fastest of all courses - but there are other factors that might cause a marathon to appear on this list or to cause a race to fall off this list. For a point-to-point course, a tailwind or headwind might make the difference from one year to the next or the temperatures that year may of been high.. Some races (such as Boston itself) simply attracts faster runners, so the fact that a marathon is on this list might be an indication of the type of runner it attracts even more than the quality of its course.
One caution, the CMI marathon is a hilly race (just ask Susan Paul).  It is always a good idea to do your "homework" before you run any race.

Running is a Gift

Running is a gift you give yourself; but to truly enjoy running, like most gifts, it must be shared. When you share your running you begin to appreciate that it is not really an individual sport. Sure you must be the one to actually log the miles (haven't figured out a way to off-shore that yet!) but how many miles could you really log without the support of your running buddies? I know I couldn't (or wouldn't) log very many miles without the group! From my first marathon, to the triathlons, to the daily slogs it all seems to go better when accompanied by silly jokes, stories, and gossip. For this I am thankful of the gift all give my running buddies give me.
Now that I'm injured I am reminded of how much running - the physical exercise - and running - the social activity - mean to me. I hope that while I'm down my legs don't forget the miles I've already logged and my buddies don't forget to include me in the jokes, stories, and gossip! (But I have to admit Linda can keep the Donny Osmond music!)

“A marathoner is a marathoner regardless of time. Virtually everyone who tries the marathon has put in training over months, and it is that exercise and that commitment, physical and mental, that gives meaning to the medal, not just the day’s effort, be it fast or slow.”

- Mary Wittenburg, New York Road Runners

I won’t explain why I run…for those who ask, no explanation will suffice, for those who run, no explanation is necessary.~Unkown

It hurts and if anyone tells your different they lied......

Jeri 11/13/09

When you train for 6 months doing 10/1’s, stick to the plan during the race. Do not get caught up in the race hype and skip your walk break or miles 20-26.2 will smack you in the face! Listen to your group leaders!!!...
