Saturday Pace Group Run Nov 12

Hey

What a weekend... Congratulations to all our returning runners from Rock N Roll Savannah and NYC Marathon!!!!
We sent 15 runners to Savannah, so as you can imagine we came back with a lot of stories and pictures, not to mention some great runs and some pretty good PR's! In the half Dana, Stephanie,Whitney, Lea Anne had great runs with Toni, Rachel, and Marua tearing up the course with some impressive PR's. The full course proved to be a little tougher than expected due to the wind in your face last few miles, however Krystal,Kevin, Tim,Sally,Hung ran solid times..Philip,Stephanie and I all ran PR's. Yes it is true I did run a BQ and somehow got 3rd in my age group (not very many people in my age group left).
Last but not least... Special thanks to Krystal who put together the Paula Dean's Dinner Saturday night. Thanks Krystal!!
While we didn't send as many to NY our NYC runners did us proud and Adriana, CeCe, Jen, and Sally all had solid performances and from what they tell me they have a lot of stories and pictures to share.
Also Congrats to everyone who held down the fort last weekend and ran long..... so this week we all get to cut back on mileage this week.

BLANKET COLLECTION FOR THE HOMELESS- MarathonFest is joining forces with The Orlando Runner's Club once again this year for the blanket drive for the Coalition of the Homeless. Last year we helped donate 300 blankets to those in need. Please bring a new or gently used blanket to the run on Saturday, OCTOBER 29th OR Sunday, OCTOBER 30th. You can also drop a blanket off at Track Shack if you are unable to make the run. Thank you for your help with this project!
PHOTOS- Take lots of photos for our Victory Breakfast slideshow at the end of the year! Send your photos to Patti Brigham at pattimbrigham@gmail.com If you have a large file of pictures, you can send them to Patti through a free service called www.WeTransfer.com Go to that website and type in Patti's email address, attach the photos, and then send. This way it will not clog up the sender's or the receiver's mail.
Susan's Training Tip:
TRAINING TIP- It's TAPER time for many of our runners, for some it is the first week and other it's the second week. Cut your mileage by 30% from your highest mileage week for the first week of taper. For those in their second week of taper, reduce your mileage by another 20%. Pay close attention to your nutrition, making sure you get plenty of protein and good, healthy complex carbohydrates. Skip the fast foods and processed foods! Eat clean! Hydration is essential too, so pound back the water. Drink a gallon a day; this is an easy measurement for most to gauge their consumption, and some will need even more than that! Nutrition, hydration, sleep, stretching, and training are factors we CAN control, so do your best with all of these! Some factors, like the weather, are OUT of our control, so let that one go and focus on what is up to you.
For those still in training mode, it's time to recover from the long weekend mileage. These same factors are in your control as well, so do your best to eat healthy, sleep, hydrate, and stretch during the week. It's a Pace Run for the weekend, so practice your goal marathon or half-marathon pace....and hopefully our weather will now cooperate and allow us to do so!

Odds N Ends: N Pictures below

VOLUNTEER AT DISNEY 2012- If you are not running the Disney Marathon, but would like to cheer the runners on...we have TWO options for volunteering this year! Raymond Randall, MarathonFester, and Mark Hendelson, MarathonFester, are heading up support tables at Mile 17 and Mile 23. As a runner, you all know how important these support tables are to our well-being, so come on out and lend a hand if you can! Contact Mark at Mark.Hendelson@ssa.gov or Raymond at raymondrandall@gmail.com

DETAILS FROM RAYMOND- The fabulous chocolate stop, located near mile 23, is being filled with runners from MarathonFest and Galloway programs. It is the perfect location to give your running compatriots some support, their favorite food or drink, or even run a short distance with them. All volunteers will receive a one-day park pass valid for one year, a box lunch, and a Disney Marathon wind jacket. Spots are limited and will fill quickly, so register soon. To register, go to http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1971807 and register for the category/stop "MarathonFest".

From the YMCA- Beginning this weekend, the YMCA is offering a water fitness program for Track Shack runners every Saturday during the month of October (5 Saturdays). It will be a 30 minute class starting at 9:30am on Saturday mornings at the Cady Way Pool in Winter Park. The cost is $5 a class for Y members; $10 a class for non-Y members, and if you sign up for 4 classes, the 5th one is free...so for $20 (Y members) or $40 (non-Y) you get FIVE 30 minute classes. The class incorporates some stretching, some water exercises, and some swimming...but you do not need to be a "swimmer" to participate. The class is specifically designed to promote recovery after running. Attached is the registration form. The first class begins this Saturday, October 1, at 9:30am Attached is the registration form
